Choosing a swimming pool dealer/contractor

Since you are making a huge investment into your home, you will want to make sure that you have hired a reputable contractor, and one who will back up his work and that of his employees and/or sub-contractors. There are several things you need to consider when hiring a contractor or purchasing a pool from a dealer. It would also be to your advantage to talk with friends and neighbors who have installed pools in their backyards. You will be able to learn from other people's experience, whether good or bad.

When you are looking for a reputable builder/dealer from which to purchase your pool your need to find out the following:

How much of the work will be done by their own employees as opposed to sub-contractors. Inquire as to the length of time their employees have worked for the dealer/builder; the turnover of those employees as well as their experience; How often have their installations been on time? If they were not on time, what were some of the problems for running late? Have there been any complaints filed against the company? If so, have those complaints been resolved. Fnd out if the company belongs to the Better Business Bureau or National Spa and Pool Institute (call the BBB to verify and inquire as to complaints). What type of financing is available, if any? If so, what is the interest rate and payment plan? Inquire as to the type of warranty the builder/dealer provides and the type of coverage. Of utmost importance is to ask the dealer/builder for references.
