Pumice stones for pool cleaning!

Pumice stones are made from volcanic ash and are used for scrubbing because of their abrasive action, yet they are soft and do not mar or scratch surfaces easily. The abrasiveness helps to remove stains from the sides and bottoms of the pools. They can also remove the ring or scum line on the tile of the swimming pool. The ring and scum that form on the pool is a combination of oil and dirt and with just a light scrubbing action, the pumice stone is usually able to remove the debris. The pumice stone can also be used to rid the pool of scaling on the tile. You may also need to use a liquid tile cleaner in conjunction with the pumice stone.

One advantage of using pumice stones to remove the scaling from tiles, as well as other residue and stains is that it will not excessively scratch the plaster surface of the pool; in fact, it may not scratch it at all. Pumice stones are usually sold in blocks, or small brick form, which makes
them easy to hold onto while scrubbing. Even though a pumice stone has a rough surface, it is soft enough to the touch so that you don't even need to wear gloves while scrubbing. Although, you should wear gloves while working with cleansers and chemicals.

You may also purchase pumice stones in the form of small bladed stones that fit well and attach onto a telepole. This makes it easy to reach the tight spaces of your pool, as well as reaching underwater in deep pools.

It is best to scrub the pool before you vacuum it because the pumice stones may disintegrate.

Pumice stones should not be used on fiberglass as they will scratch the surface. As an alternative, you may use a block of Styrofoam or some other type of plastic foam.
