Clean
your spa with a vacuum!
Many people
think that they need to drain their hot tub in order to thoroughly
clean it and remove the build up of dirt and debris which
accumulates at the bottom of the spa. Of course, this accumulation
is much more common with outdoor spas than with indoor. Even if you
are meticulous about washing your feet, etc. before you get into
your spa, you will still carry body oils and residue with you as you
dip into the spa. However, you do not need to drain your hot tub in
order to properly clean it. There are underwater spa vacuums
available that will suck up dirt and debris, just like swimming pool
vacuums. This not only saves time and water but chemicals as well,
because it enables you to use the same water for a greater period of
time.
You clean a spa much the same way as you would a pool. The main
difference is that many of the tools are smaller. A spa vacuum is
simply a smaller type of leaf vacuum. It operates in the same
manner, utilizing a garden hose for water pressure to form suction.
A small sock acts as the leaf bag, and dirt and debris get forced
into the sock, as fine dirt and water pass through the sock.
Like the leaf vacuum, the spa vacuum affixes to the telepole which
is equipped with different attachments, such as those on a household
vacuum cleaner. The different attachments are better for cleaning
crevices of the spa or for brushing as you vacuum. The spa vacuum
will also suck up hairpins, coins and other hard to reach items from
the bottom of the spa.
There is a new type of spa vacuum that requires no pumping or
batteries or water hookups. It also contains a telescopic pole made
of durable aluminum. This enables you to clean in-ground spas
without stooping or bending over. The vacuum functions by placing
your thumb over the air hole, then submerging the vacuum, then
releasing your thumb. This action causes the water to rush in and
pull dirt and debris into the vacuum chamber. After the chamber
fills with water, you lift it out of the spa and let the water drain
out. A filter traps the dirt and debris. This vacuum is probably
easier to use than the traditional spa vacuums.
